This is an X-men-y romance story built around a torture/rescue kink. There’s a mutant academy, alien invasions in the background, etc.
The leads are two adults who had a crush on each other in their school years. This is mutant school, of course – the Gray Matter Institute. Leith is a reality manipulator whose full powers were not at all evident in youth. Nathan started off moderately powerful, but kept growing well after his peers topped out. Leith was bullied for dissenting from the school’s strongly insular pro-mutant culture; Nathan always thought Leith was in the right but was too afraid of social ostracism (again) to speak up.
The big conflict point is Branwen, a mutant girl whose powers are over pleasure and pain. She can “stock up” on pleasure by torturing people, and she does so…

This is a romance story between a hikkikomori and her sexy anime figurine who comes to life, where the hikkikomori – both spurred on and impeded by the figurine –needs to learn how to drive and clean her large, cluttered, and disgusting house. Because her hoarder aunt who had been (angrily) providing for her is on her deathbed, and she really needs a plan to be an independent adult.
Possibly another poor relative (with a toddler who gets into everything, thereby making the cleaning urgent?) arrives on the scene, causing the hikkimori some stress: "but you’re clearly angling for a slice of MY inheritance from a not-even-that-rich woman whom I don’t like very much and who doesn’t like me!“ (although there may be love there, and a lot of it.)
In her canon, the anime figurine (whom the…

Crown of Legality: A simple white gold band without jewels, this crown has the unusual magical property that anything done while wearing the crown is legal, from petty theft to murder. Characters wearing the crown do not become less lawful in alignment, regardless of the actions they take. In addition, they are treated by other characters as having a lawful alignment while wearing the crown, regardless of their actual alignment. The immunity granted by the crown extends to both criminal and civil matters. Nobody with governmental authority, from a town guardsman to a king, can use the crown. They will find themselves unable to touch it, or even to pick it up with tongs. This item cannot be destroyed, but it can be stolen. Stealing the Crown of Legality is legal, of course.

Story seed I've been thinking about for years: Lesbian returns to her hometown and finds that her homophobic high school rapist has become not just a better person, but a pillar of the local LGBTQ community. A discovery that pries open, and greatly expands the scope of, her original wound.
Obviously this kicks off a psychological violent revenge quest, although I don't know how it plays out.
What do you do when your tormentor completely rehabilitates herself? Do you destroy her life? Or do you let her be? How could you let her be when she has everything you want – even in the social layer you thought you’d escaped to, away from her?
• Or do you reject this false dichotomy and take a nuanced middling approach, like blackmailing her* into degrading sex acts
The protagonist is named Katrina.…

Lesbian romance story. Its cores are: mild BDSM, fealty kink, and "what if you had to kill a bunch of people for utilitarianism". A catgirl spy owned by a monarch on a colony planet (Junasso) discovers he is about to start nuclear war. He hopes to be the last one standing. On his disarmed flagship are a hundred thousand people – about half of whom he intends to murder as the war starts. Unwilling to let them die, the catgirl – Sorossa – steals the ship with a friend and starts the 2 month jump to Earth. She is unable to restock on food, and not all of the people will make it. When the residents become aware of this, the ship becomes a warzone. From the pilot/admin compartment, Sorossa starts killing them to keep order.
Sorossa and her friend argue over the killings, and never come to…

The Erogamer + American Psycho + The Metropolitan Man
The parasite: An alien sex parasite is spreading across Earth. It is almost undetectable and spreads through sex. Hosts who do not spread the parasite to uninfected victims slowly die from a variety of causes; hosts who spread it a lot find themselves developing powers based around what arouses them.
The protagonist: A startup entrepreneur with kinks for self-knowledge, quantification, and gamification, and an active sex life. This combination means that the parasite's powers present to them as a litRPG setup, and the included status screen makes them one of the first people on the planet to be aware of the situation.
The premise: They run the numbers. Even if they slept with patient zero, the exponential rate of parasite spread will…

Worth the Candle features:
• Joon, isekai protagonist with depression and sexual hangups, who previously had an imbalanced relationship with the underage sister of one of his friends
• Bethel, magical house and serial killer
• Valencia, teenage girl with the power to devour devils and demons for their social or combat skills, who was rescued by Joon and spends a long while wishing for a relationship with him
In canon, Bethel rapes Joon, and then Valencia has to leave the narrative with her to try and rehabilitate her. But... what about if instead of Bethel raping Joon directly, some of their conversations went differently and she trapped them together, compelling them to have sex with each other? This would happen while Joon is avoiding spending time with Valencia as though for fear of…

The Laundry Files series describes a setting where enough computation and the wrong algorithms produce magic, where humanity is inevitably doomed by the impending Lovecraftian apocalypse from Moore's Law and population growth. Secret occult intelligence agencies try and forestall this as best they can, with their signature equipment including smartphones with apps installed for warding, exorcism, disguise, and geases.
One fic idea that came to mind from reading the series was of somebody else, like a date rapist or phone repair tech who routinely clones phones for blackmail material, getting their hands on one of those devices and kicking off a hypno app story.
The first part would cover them getting the device and their initial experiments with it, and an amoral pursuit of sex and money…

A/N: When I was a kid, I loved to write stories about teenagers who could turn into wolves, and I would try and get my friends to write wolf stories with me. I thought it could be fun to try and reinhabit this mindset and my style from the time. //
“Cassie! Cassie, where did you go?”
My best friend Emily’s voice was loud in the quiet forest. She had been looking for me for a while now, and it was starting to get dark.
“Cassie!”
Her voice was further away now, and I hoped she would just give up soon. Knowing her, it wasn’t likely, but I didn’t dare move from my hiding spot until then.
You see, I was hiding because I have a secret. Most of the time, I look like a normal sixteen year old girl. I go to a normal school and have normal friends. But what isn’t so normal is that I can turn into a…

A schlocky “bastard daughter returns to the magical world to take revenge on her father’s clan” story. Here's a juicy intro sequence:
• enraged mom who was pregnant at time of exile from the magical world raises daughter into the Perfect Revenge Weapon
• when the daughter is ~10, the mom meets a really nice guy, chills out, heals, possibly goes to church or whatever. decides she will become a Progressive American Mom, and is reasonably successful at this transformation
• when the daughter is 17, the mom dies of complications from the torture she underwent during the clan warfare that drove her out of the magical world
• at the mom’s deathbed, the girl is like “hey btw. I’m still prepared to do the revenge sequence. I’d be delighted”
• the mom is all “no no I’m good now, I’ve moved on,…

When the captain goes down to the galley, it’s after his men have prepared the boy for him. Trussed him up. It’s gleaming steel all around, long rectangular drains set into the floor on all four sides. A workstation in the center, and above it, the boy.
The captain has only seen a creature like this once before, when he was much younger, about the age of the boy himself, sneaking a look at a scene much like this one. He remembers the sight of that boy’s tail, its end tattered and dripping blood slowly, and his gills, fluttering along his sides as his chest heaved and he struggled to breathe with an underused set of lungs. The look on his face, his eyes wet and face set in defiance. The resulting meal. This boy is even prettier. He has been on land even less, and it shows in his features,…

Basic pitch:
There's a planet where the two inhabited continents are at the poles. One of them stayed in a hunter-gatherer / early agrarian stage. The other got to the point of creating AGI. Separated by vast oceans, they never made contact. The latter civ was knew something was on the other side of the water, maybe surveilled a bit, but was never interested enough to actually go over. The first civilization is resource-poor, not worth trading with or conquering.
Then the advanced civilization blows up. Escaping the wreckage, one woman and several hundred AIs under her care makes the long journey by boat, and land on the low-tech continent. They keep their presence a secret.
(AIs and humans coexisted for quite a bit on this continent before it blew up, and the story calls them the Maid…

This novella is 80% complete, but I haven't figured out the younger student's family situation yet. Grace is a lonely teacher at a small, expensive boarding school in New Hampshire. Arroyo is the wealthy Chinese student who hacked her computer, looked at her porn, and is blackmailing her.
"I'm afraid you're not going to like what I'm about to tell you."
"Go on."
"No, I mean really, prepare yourself for something bad," said Arroyo sincerely.
Now I was very worried. I said, "I – okay. I have."
Arroyo pursed her lips a little, inhaled gently while looked down at her lap, and then looked me in the eye. "I hacked your laptop. I've been through most of your porn. I'm here to blackmail you."

This one is a kinky animal rights fantasy story.
It's set in a world with a highly sexually dimorphic non-humanspecies where the females factory farm the much larger males for meat. Our hero is a male who has been reared by a philanthropic organization that wants to prove that males are intelligent social beings. Genetics is against them – many millennia of selection made males genuinely less able to function. Still, they find 100 promising candidates to raise as figureheads.
All but one are discarded by the time they hit adulthood. The pressure on the finalist, Tedy, is immense. He understands that once he's thrust into public attention his every act & word will be scrutinized.
The females use sign language and a three-tone sung language. The males struggle with the latter. He can only…

I've been posting some idiosyncratic ideas here to seed the website, but you don't need to mimic the vibe or the format or anything. Please use the tree format however you want. Post whole outlines, single sentences, snippets of poetry.
I also made this root post so that people can discuss things about the site itself. You can report bugs here, leave impressions, think out loud about what changes you want that would produce social/creative dynamics you like.

Alexander Graham Bell picked up the instrument. It had to work this time. He'd worked it all out, but it was worth double-checking. Yes, all the wires were firmly seated, now it was just a matter of picking up the earpiece. He wiped his sweating hands on the sides of his pants, then reached down to the table and held up the cylinder to his ear, and the speaker to his mouth.
"Come here, Watson-"

(At LessOnline)
You come to talk to someone you hadn’t noticed before. After some chitchat, she tells you she’s psychic and can read minds.
• Oh really?
It strikes you as a ridiculous claim to make, especially at a rationalist event.
• Is there any way you can prove your claim?
• Sure there is. Think about a number.
You think of 43.
• You thought of the number 43.
She wasn’t even asking for confirmation, like magicians sometimes do (“Is this your card?”). She seemed to know she was right.
• … Wait! This is the old xkcd trick: you try it multiple times, each time with the same confidence, until it works. I’m just the 1/100th guy. (Cf. xkcd.com/628)
• That might be it. How about I guess the next one?
• The… you think you…
• 27.
• …
• Now the odds are 1 in 10.000. I sure must have done this…

DULLSVILLE - Dullsville Elementary School students thought it was going to be a normal day of show-and-tell, until third-grader Bobby Stevenson introduced his guest: his dog Buddy. "It's his birthday!", Stevenson explained.
"Buddy said 'bark, bark, bark, bark', and that really goes against our community's inclusive values.", said fellow student Joseph James, "It's hate speech."
The embattled dog refused calls to resign, telling reporters "Bark bark bark".

Certain places are meant to age you: the startup, the research lab, the factory floor. To let you work your bones into dust in service of a greater dream. Then why is everyone around these environments often in stasis? The grad student who is tidally locked with their parents, the guy whose fast food diet has remained unchanged since high school, etc. These were meant to be phases, fleeting transients in life. Instead they’ve done this for a decade.
Maybe it’s something in the air in such an environment. Maybe the melted plastic vapour of the factory, for example, coats your lungs and plastinates you, preserving you forever. Maybe it’s selection bias.
How do you do it? How do you stay much the same as you have always been? Knee bouncing, enthusiastic, frazzled on no stimulants at all? I…

They say you need to live in a group house to make sense of the world.
With the sheer number of rabbit holes you can get into these days you can never be too paranoid about the information diet you’re giving to yourself. A group house, people say, gives you the most representative possible sample of the individuals in your (age, education, income) cohort. Informational rabbit holes are fundamentally a problem of unrepresentative sampling.
The natural next step toward ensuring representativeness is ensuring that literally EVERYONE lives in the same place. This is easier said than done as the person I’m stepping over right now is showing me.
The people outside the City call us dumb but my parents are adamant this is the right long term investment if I want to be anybody at all. After all, a…

Ostara is a forsaken world, plunged into eternal winter at the murder of its goddess a thousand years ago. Some humans retreated into burrows deep within the ice sheets to survive, clustering in the ice caverns formed by hot springs; others drained dry their innate gift of magic to transform themselves for survival in the killing surface cold. For all mortals, life is an unforgiving struggle against the dark.
The MC is a skinshifter, one of the few of their kind to possess magic, and they’re determined to use their gifts to secure prosperity for their small, impoverished clan—even if it means venturing far from home to attend training school with the deepdwellers. Their teachers and classmates are hostile, from the xenophobic deepdwellers to the skinshifters from other clans playing their…

premise: An elderly retired assassin lives in an assisted living facility. One day, a guy he knows moves in. The second guy is a rival assassin who killed many of the first guy's friends. Does the first guy take revenge? Or does he connect with the one person he knows who still remembers that life, who understands what it all means?
featuring possible endings like
• No one is actually an assassin, the first guy is just delusional in his old age.
• The two guys drink tea together, and the first guy gives decides to give up on revenge; then he falls over dead. He's gone soft in his old age.
• They drink tea together and have a nice conversation. Then the second guy dies. Something about perseverance, undying vengeance, and no such thing as a former assassin.
• The good ending where they…

This root post is just a single scene + some context.
There’s a magical race whose most powerful members are capable of mind control, and its leader – who is afraid of raising an heir in the normal way, due to risk of assassination and values drift – is secretly training up an heir to replace him and Unite The Factions and so on.
He’s raising her almost entirely among humans, and he sends her to a new school every six months and tells her to rule the pack by the end of those six months. At the end, he brings in all the key members of her peer cohort and mind controls them into saying their honest opinion of her – explaining why they don’t like her if they don’t like her, what they think she could have done to make them her followers in truth, what life circumstances and psychological…
